When it comes to the duality of order and chaos. I talked in the article regarding Solar Madness how this distorted Apollonian-Dionysian Duality creates a distortion in how humanity sees itself. It becomes a sort of self-deception, brought about by this lens of good versus evil, order versus chaos. Where the two sides throughout history fighting each other are the Apollonian versus the Dionysian. Both present themselves as champions of different values. The Dionysian often appears as advocates of empathy, social justice, and inclusivity, while the Apollonian emphasizes tradition, order, and authority. Whilst they view each other through the lens of good and evil. This idea is then also relevant to what we will talk about later, as it ties directly into order and chaos. This is as much connected to a conflict between the Collective Shadow and the transcendent spiritual function tied to the Sky Father in the Collective Unconscious. I then also highly suggest reading the article called The True Apollonian-Dionysian Dichotomy before going deeper into this one.
The Monad: Transcending Duality
However there is a force that transcends both, which is the Monad. When it comes to this it is about bringing a sharper and more experiential focus on ones living connection to the Monad. Which is the way truly out of the duality that traps one in the duality of order and chaos. For the world is duality, and Abraxas or the Monad is the synthesis that solves the contradiction. That is to say, they represent the union of opposites. As Jung says, the spirit of true Spiritually is actually becoming oneself within the Divine Self. However, that can be done only by the self-realisation of what this actually means. That is to say, Zagreus or the Suffering Scapegoat and the Redeemer is their own Self. Where Dionysus-Zagreus is such a symbol of the Self. Jung further stated that it’s no wonder why the westerner is so prone to devalue himself, since he’s placing all that represents goodness, and even badness, but overall, completeness, outside. Having emptied themselves of everything that they are. They have become like a friend of mine put in simple terms an empty bookshelf.
We are like a single raindrop reflecting all the other raindrops in the spiderweb of life. So in that way if we are still mostly unconscious and not yet moved past the state of eternal eclipse, we similarly become internally a reflection of the world, as much as the world is a reflection of us, and all that dwell in it. Similarly our culture is a reflection of the internal state of being of it's people. And when it comes to the current state of eternal eclipse for humanity. Much like Kronos represents the state between consciousness and the unconscious, most humans are in such a state. What could be also called the state of titanic projection into matter as the Orphic teachings talk about. Or Solar Madness as it has also been coined. The light of true consciousness has to yet arise for many. So many of them live within a state of duality, projection, ignorance and externalisation.
Even within the days of old, we few renowned mystics and philosophers of the ancient pagan days, and those few willing to partake in the mysteries, lived similarly in a world as which we live now as well. Many take the myths as external and exoteric stories, few see them for what they are. The inner workings of the psyche and divine. Yet this state of being is not a punishment by any god, or some original sin that caused this. It is part of the natural state of being. The purpose of the rites and individuation rituals is to become truly conscious. Only then can one truly become a seer, and see the world for what it is. As the end of the world is always now for those who do not see.
Scapegoat and Redeemer
The distinction between scapegoat/sufferer and redeemer/healer, denying the former and clinging to the latter leads to the whole idea of wanting to alleviate the suffering of others, also is important here. Not realising that a person's suffering itself, is not something to be taken from them, but understood, seen and thus transformed. Like parts of the self that hold trauma or emotions like grief and sadness should not be transcended, but felt and held, to truly understand the underlying message. As only through feeling through our suffering and deeply understanding it can we heal and become whole. As denying our own suffering leads to the externalisation of it onto the world. Even if we want to act with deep compassion and have wisdom, we can not alleviate other's suffering unless we felt our own. As through knowing our own pain, we can truly cultivate true compassion. Yet even then people should be helped to realise their own inner redeemer. The only way to do this is not by avoiding our own suffering, but to feel through it, nurture the fragmented parts within. Through this process comes healing, transformation and with it wholeness and deeper and deeper states of true non-duality.
Liberation Through the Monad
From this arises a different kind of liberation, and a balanced path between desire and selflessness, and a movement towards the Monad. The Monad in that sense is the Supreme Being, divinity or the totality of all things. It is divinity beyond any concept, the first being and the totality of all beings, referring in cosmogony to the source and indivisible origin of all that is and was. In various philosophical and spiritual traditions, the Monad is considered the ultimate, indivisible source of all existence. It represents the absolute unity from which all multiplicity arises. Union with the Monad which is needed for this process, in that sense, involves transcending individual ego identity and experiencing mystical union with the divine, characterized by ineffable unity. Where all distinctions between self and other, order and chaos, where the subject object distinction, dissolves. You become one with the experience of the world itself.
This means letting go of rigid self-concepts and attachments to personal identity. The ego undergoes a transformation from being a separate, self-centered entity to becoming an expression of a larger, unified consciousness. This does not mean the complete eradication of the ego, but rather its alignment with a higher sense of purpose and unity. The Monad is the force where destructive and creative forces co-exist in it's potentiality. The purest expression of raw psychic energy that can either become distorted and create destruction and chaos or become a creative force that brings about life and renewal. It is often seen as the highest expression of divine consciousness or the ultimate reality beyond human comprehension.
The Nature of Order and Chaos
In that sense order and how we understand it as only physical structures such as institutions, buildings, and other forms of societal infrastructure, next to societal norms, is a human misconception, and does not reflect the full nature of the structure of reality itself. The true higher order hidden from the understanding of most are the processes of life, not just physical structure. The processes are an important and more higher structure and order, which includes both order and chaos. So even though material structure and the world we see around us are physically present material and structure, or even psychic structures when it comes to societal norms, these are as much connected to the force of change. As structure in a material or sense of norms are not truly stable long term. They are subject to change and the forces of “chaos” or better said disruption and change. Order can be as creative and nurturing as it can be destructive and stifling. As much as disruption and change can be a necessary force for positive and beneficial transformation and renewal, and thus creative, and not only destructive in nature.
In a deeper sense processes in themselves have something structured and ordered to them as well, as the water cycle is an order of sorts. Though the things within the processes are not static. While structures may exist, they are not the essence of order. The real higher truths of existence. Instead, order is found in the ongoing, changing, and interconnected processes that underlie the appearance of stability. So in that sense everything that appears stable and as if it is material, truly is empty. Meaning there is no inherent rigid something to be found. That is just an idea and concept in our heads. This might then also be the origin of the fear and need for control that leads to the othering of nature. It is our fear of the inherent ambiguity and true fluid and ever changing nature of reality. Symbolized often through the symbolism of death.
The Symbolism of Death and Rebirth
The tarot card of death similarly symbolises the ever-changing aspects of nature, next the idea of death and rebirth. This being what the Wotan archetype, Sovereignty Goddess and Dionysus are connected to. Hence why they have been relegated to the Collective Shadow (repressed parts of the collective psyche), as they challenge the perceived order and sense of structure and comfort we perceive from the perception of stability. Even if actuality this is only a perception, as true stability can only be found in relationship to the ever-changing nature of reality. In that sense really, it is not a fear of death or the unknown that we have, but a fear of life. As this is the reality of life itself. Beyond comforting narratives that split this reality into duality.
