When we think about the Great mother archetype, we might think about the nurturing, motherly and giving aspects of nature. We might think about motherhood and children. Yet when it comes to the Great Mother, there is more to this archetype than just that. The Great Mother embodies both the nurturing and life-bestowing aspects as well as the life-taking aspects of life. As a feminine symbol, she is intricately linked to nature, yet also is a potent symbol for the unconscious.
