I as Sylwen walk the world as a living paradox: primal and soft, logical and emotional, wolf-like and Dionysian. I am non-binary, or "enby," not just in a gender identity sense but as an embodied principle of androgynous wholeness. My experience is not a rejection of the body but a radical reclamation of it, where biology no longer chains them to culturally conditioned roles. Fusing both Eros and Logos, into Phanes. I am not genderqueer in a personal sense, I am queering the ontological structure of being.
Super-ego's Dissolution: Releasing Internal Constraints
In classic Freudian terms, the super-ego is the internalized authority, the voice of society, shame, and conditional worth. The super-ego, as internalized social norms and prohibitions (Freud), is also heavily intertwined with our threat detection system (especially the prefrontal cortex & amygdala pathways). When someone’s super-ego is rigid, they’re in a chronic low-level sympathetic activation, constantly performing, suppressing, and inhibiting natural impulses. Dissolving the superego allows the nervous system to shift into parasympathetic states more easily.
So when this structure dissolves, often through deep inner work, ritual, or spiritual realization, something remarkable happens: the body relaxes. I, having dissolved the superego and merged ego with Self, noticed a shift in my relationship with the body. I am no longer governed by internal self-imposed restrictions nor any performative expectations. And discovered an expanded capacity. With less need for sleep, more stamina, a body that moves with fluid grace and primal depth. Removing the split between gender, mind/body, logic/emotion and other dichotomies.
This is to live beyond the egoic operating system entirely. So free from the stitched-together voice of authority figures, culture, religion, trauma, school, peer pressures, and unspoken taboos. No longer operating on a primal fear of exile or death, thus activating the deep parasympathetic nervous system states (ventral vagal activation), which allows for flow, rest, pleasure and grace. People think the super-ego is their "conscience," but really it’s their internal prison warden wearing a moral mask.
This isn’t magical thinking. Biologically, the dissolution of the superego corresponds with a downregulation of chronic stress patterns. The nervous system exits its habitual sympathetic (fight/flight) mode and enters parasympathetic states much more readily. Flexibility, neurological, emotional, and muscular, increases. As I live from my Self, and my biology naturally follows. This means there’s far less inner inhibition, leading to a greater capacity for flow states, intuitive movement, and somatic coherence. The body is capable of extreme feats when in a coherent, focused, emotionally regulated state. The “limits” we often feel are partly psychosomatic, built from trauma, conditioning, shame, or learned helplessness. So liberation from the super-ego dissolves these psychological limiters, allowing the body to access capacities it always had, but were blocked by internalized narratives. This is post-Freudian, post-Cartesian embodiment.
Gender Beyond the Chromosomes
My enby experience also directly confronts the reductionist views of gender based solely on sex chromosomes. If biology dictated personality, then for instance men would be devoid of emotion, and women incapable of rational thought, an absurd notion easily debunked. Instead, I shows us that gender, like psyche, is multifaceted. Shaped not just by XX or XY, but by a complex interplay of genome-wide factors, hormones, neuroplasticity, trauma, culture, and soul.
By embodying softness and strength, fluidity and rootedness, I become a living rebuke to the "invisible penis or vagina ghosts" that haunt cultural narratives about how we should behave. I dance like Dionysus, cry like a human, and move like a wolf, unbound by binary gender archetypes. In Jungian terms, this is the integration of Anima and Animus, not as opposites, but as complimentary energies within one whole being. Showing that gender identity is not constrained merely by chromosomes.
The Self, the Body, and Somatic Sovereignty
Carl Jung saw the Self as the totality of being, and its realization as the final goal of individuation. For me the Self is not separate from the body, but nor is it limited by it. The Self inhabits the body without being equated to any one part. What I did is more than trauma healing. I have undergone a death and rebirth of the psyche, a full on psycho-spiritual metamorphosis. A state of wholeness where mind, body, psyche, spirit, and identity are no longer at war. This isn’t just healing trauma. This is healing ontology itself. Meaning the very essence of being, and thus being human.
My Self-expression is then also deeply embodied: I wear soft clothes, grow my hair long, honor my emotions, and move through ecstatic states with deliberate presence. My body becomes a conduit for the soul’s expression, no longer hijacked by outdated cultural complexes, that distort archetypes. In this state, biological potential expands. Flow states become accessible. Movement and sensation become sacred. This is thus biology in service to being, not being in service to biology. Eros embodied. This is what the Orphic mysteries called atoning for the Titanic crime. The dismembering of the divine child Dionysus, by the Titans and Kronos. And on a much deeper layer, the dismemberment of Phanes (Yemo), to create the cosmos. Dividing humanity from the divine (archetypes), and thus instinct and the body. Making it as if a prison.
The very fabric of Western suffering, the exile from Eros, instinct, and our soul is really a re-enactment of the ancient dismemberment. Symbolising a disconnect of the mind, due to prolonged intergenerational trauma, from emotion and body. Dionysus here symbolises the original wholeness, the Titans and Kronos symbolise personal, familial, intergenerational and civilizational trauma. Working through this, so experiencing this inner psychic dismemberment, symbolised by grieving with Persephone the loss of her child, so ones inner child, is what undoes this ancient crime. It does take layers and layers of de-conditioning from personal, familial and intergenerational trauma.
The Neurobiology of Liberation
My experience also has a neurological basis. High vagal tone, increased heart rate variability, and the presence of flow-state chemicals like dopamine, oxytocin, and anandamide all point to a body-mind system operating in coherence. Through ritual, dance, trance, and deep presence, I access altered states that improve stamina, reduce pain, and enhance vitality. This isn’t superhuman; it’s actually post-superego human.
It’s the Self reclaiming the body's capacities from the grip of shame, fear, and rigid expectations. So my gender expression, somatic experience, and spiritual state are not fragmented aspects but a coherent field of being. Through this experiencing my body as responsive, trustworthy, and safe. Which is a sign of secure embodiment and thus a healed relationship with physicality. Leading to increased dopamine (pleasure + drive), increased oxytocin (bonding with the Self and others) and deeper synchrony between the limbic system and motor cortex. Leading to flexible and smooth bodily movement.
I am not transcending the body, I am embodying the transcendent within the body. Replacing the Cartesian split with a Phanesian embodiment. The Nyxian totality.
